Cardinal Newman RC School, Rhondda Cynon Taf, South East Wales
A group of students have been following the Welsh Bac for a year, with some students aiming for the Intermediate Diploma and some for the Advanced Diploma. These students are now in their second year and are studying a broad range of AS/A2 subjects. A new group of students who entered the sixth form this year are following the Welsh Bac and aiming for either the Intermediate or Advanced Diploma with guidance from their teachers.
The school has innovative practice in the area of integrating the requirements of the Welsh Bac Core with the Duke of Edinburgh programme. For instance, the requirement to complete Community Participation in the Welsh Bac mirrors the requirement to complete community service in the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the students have used the Duke of Edinburgh programme activities to provide evidence for their Key Skills (6 Key Skills being required to achieve the WBQ Core). The students are very positive about the excellent experiences they have had over the last year.
