WBQ Model

The Welsh Baccalaureate is an over-arching qualification consisting of two parts: the Core and the Options.

The Options are approved qualifications that students take now in school or college post-16. Students will continue to choose from the Options available in their school/college, as they do now for their post-16 studies.

The Core is the new and innovative part of the Welsh Baccalaureate. This is compulsory and includes five components:

  • Key Skills
  • Wales, Europe and the World
  • Work-related Education
  • Personal and Social Education
  • Individual Investigation

The last four components are designed to offer opportunities for the students to achieve their key skills. Please click on the topics to find out more about the components and other information on the Welsh Bac.
